Greening Your Spring with Feng Shui

Springtime is here!
If you’re living in the Northern Hemisphere, chances are you’re boogieing your way through a sea of silkworm threads and enjoying warmer temperatures by dining al fresco (and dodging the occasional thunderstorm).
The spring equinox will kick off the start of spring on March 20th. What happens during the equinox? You’ll start to notice an increased amount of daylight (bring on the vitamin d!).
The Feng Shui DL on Spring
From a Feng Shui perspective, springtime is associated with the color green and the element of wood.
Have you ever noticed the uptick in greenery during this time of year? From seasonal decor pieces to everything you can get your hands on at Target, green is so in (even those one-off design magazine subscriptions that you can’t remember signing up for come in the mail with lush green cover photos).
The color green signifies family and health in Feng Shui tradition.
What comes to mind when you think of green? Maybe this list will get you going:
Nature
Environment
Freshness
Quality
Health
Healing
Money
A lot of different things rolled into one, huh? Let’s take a look at each area more closely.
Nature and the Environment
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a tree? For me, it’s the green leaves. One of my favorite memories is putting on my first set of glasses. I looked out of the window and said, “Oh my gosh! I can see the leaves again!”.
How amazing is it that a natural compound named chlorophyll is the one running the show when it comes to every leaf and blade of grass beaming with green?!
Freshness and Quality
Perusing through the produce section, you’re likely to grab a rich, green zucchini versus one that’s looking a little past its ready date.
Our biggest grocery store chains, like Whole Foods, Sprouts and Publix, all chose green for their logos and branding. You trust that their products are going to be quality (and fresh!).
Health and Healing
The color green is associated with the heart chakra. It’s easy to understand why it’s seen as the universal color of healing and health.
Money
The United States’ paper currency is printed using green ink. Hence the color’s connection to wealth. Historically, green ink was inexpensive and accessible.
Holidays and other meanings
St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. Happening smack dab in the middle of March, its festivities scream, “Green!”. From green-dyed rivers to bagels, this holiday gives those who celebrate it a reason to incorporate green into their wardrobes.
And if you happen to stumble upon a four leaf clover, you’re a lucky gal. Yep, this color is also associated with luck!
Green isn’t always seen as a positive thing.
What about the phrase, “green with envy”? Or the Wicked Witch of the West. So evil, she’s green.
Your skin can even turn green when you’re sick (and start to look like that puking green emoji!).
Bring Spring Indoors
Shift the energy of your home this spring! Here are some helpful and easy Feng Shui tips:
Declutter, the Feng Shui way! Get rid of anything old or that you no longer use.
Start spring cleaning. I use as many natural cleaning products, like this one by Aunt Fannie’s, as possible made with essential oils instead of synthetic fragrances.
Bring fresh flowers or plants into your home. One of the most revered flowers in Feng Shui is the purple orchid. Check out my top pick here!
